Difference between poems Essay Example for Free
Difference between poems Essay Both poems are a response to other peoples idea of the poets cultural identities. The poems are written as though the poet is replying to some one directly. Half-Cast is about a multi cultural person who is standing up against racism and against people look down upon them because of their ethnicity. John Agard is arguing with the person who is being racist to him by questioning if Half-Cast means he is half a man. Still I rise is about a woman, Maya Angelou who has had a traumatic personal and cultural history but still she rises above it. She has had to face racial and sexual prejudice, but she still stands strong. In Half-Cast John Agard opens the poem with a polite but angry request. This opening is only an angry one because of the following lines. Excuse me; standing on one leg, I am half-cast This sarcasm is showing that he is trying to be nice but is annoyed about it. The first line is very polite but immediately after the poet is acquiring the reader of suggesting he is half a man by using the words half-caste. He uses informal language throughout the poem, the language is also written in john Agards dialect. It makes you say the words how it sounds. This could be the poet celebrating his culture. Explain yuself, Wha yu mean This also makes you as the reader feel the anger, annoyance and sadness through the Agards tone. The structure of the poem is simple but effective by using a three line opening two quite large stanzas then closes with three lines. One poetic technique he uses in each stanza is repetition of his points. Explain yuself, Wha yu mean This is repeated also so that Agard could give his reasons for being insulted and emphasises his argument. In each stanza he uses comparisons; When yu say half-caste, Yu mean Tchaikovsky, Sit down at dah piano, an mix a black key Wid a white key, Is a half-caste symphony. This is questioning it Tchaikovskys music should be seen as inferior because he mixed black and white notes. The poem is well structured and the language is perfectly composed. I have keep using this quote as it very strong and uses a lot of poetic techniques. Explain yu self, Wha yu mean. The comparisons are very good because you can understand and relate to his point as he compares his situation using metaphors. Still I rise, it is set out in 8 stanzas, and in which 7 out of 8 are all the same lengths except the eighth as it is the last stanza and is the climax of the poem. The language she uses is mostly formal but it very up beat. You may kill me, but she is not bothered. In some stanzas it seems as she is mocking the person/people who are putting her down; like they are pathetic. Does my sexiness upset you the word sexiness in this context does not only imply that she is beautiful and believes that she is, but that she feels proud of her culture, which makes her confident. Maya uses many techniques in her writing such as through out the poem she uses rhetorical questions. Did you want to see me broken? These questions force the reader to think and imagine about there own views on racism and what it would be like to be in her shoes. She also uses personification; You may kill me with your hatefulness. This is effective because kill me is a very strong phrase and keeps creating the image of her arriving back at her town after the sager. Throughout the poem she has used a rhyming pattern of every first and last lines this is successful as it builds a flowing structure to the poem. The poet uses repetition to emphasise her point Out of the hut of historys shame I rise Up from a. I rise. This shows that once again she has risen above it. Historys shame this is a direct reference to the struggles faced by her ancestors in her cultural history. I think that Mayas technique clearly puts her point across and the last stanza finishes the poem with a strong phrase of I rise, I rise, I rise, I rise presenting that life is hard but what ever it throws at you, you shall rise above it. In each of the poems Maya Angelou and John Agard use repetition which emphasises their subliminal messages in the poem. John Agard gets quite defensive and angry, whereas Maya Angelou although angry and annoyed she stays calms and rises above it. I think the message of the two poems is that even when we are faced with prejudice and discrimination we can be the better people by not complying with it. I also believe the most effective techniques used to present their opinions of their cultures and peoples perception of them were repetition, similes and rhetorical questions; this created the tense moments that draw the reader in to go on and finish the poem.

Best Buy Essay
The key factors that lead to Best Buyââ¬â¢s success include: Growth in the consumer electronics retail sector and the internet boom: Constant growth in the demand for consumer electronics has grown over the previous decades which has supported Best Buyââ¬â¢s successful turnout into the top consumer electronics store. The internet also played a significant role in increasing the sales of Best Buy as it had already ramped up its computer product offerings prior to 1995. The internet boom positively affected the consumer electronics industry in general. Knowledgeable sales staff: Best Buyââ¬â¢s salespeople did not work on commission which helped creating a low pressure shopping experience for the customers and built a consumer friendly environment. This also lead Best Buy to attract a well read sales force which would guide the customers to make the choices more customized to themselves and helped the buyers in decision making. Also merchandise was arranged by brand name instead of by price range. Both of these were unusual practices in the superstore industry but worked well for Best Buy. Focus on customer service (Geek Squad): Best Buyââ¬â¢s belief in offering outstanding customer service through product warranties, personal services and at-home delivery helped Best Buy to differentiate itself from other competitors in the space. This also helped Best Buy in gaining trust and building a strong customer base. Acquisition of the Geek Squad to service computers 24Ãâ"7 differentiated Best Buy as an excellent product and service provider. Customer-Centricity: Target market segmentation by Best Buyââ¬â¢s Customer-Centric approach and extensive research and analysis of its customer base helps Best Buy in configuring its stores and training its work force to cater to the individual needs of its market segments which encourages customers to revisit for multiple purchases. Also the approach to customize the store at times in terms of some local requirements helps Best Buy in increasing its sales significantly. Risks going forward include increased competition from other retailers and wholesalers like Wal-Mart , Costco, Target etc who also have a very strong distribution network and customer base. Best Buy has to decide whether to spend money on its sales force and customization strategies or to compete in terms of price with these other retailers especially in this low margin growing industry. Best Buy also has to decide to enhance its online sales and product offerings in order to compete with the like of Amazon and Ebay in the online electronic sales market which is growing rapidly. Stores like Wal-Mart are growing tremendously fast in the retail segment and Best Buy has to compete with them in terms of opening new retail outlets as well. Another important risk Best Buy faces is investing in the international markets looking at the current economic scenario or to maintain strong hold in the local US market. . Looking forward Best Buy can compete against Wal-Mart and online companies in the following ways: Continuing to differentiate itself as an excellent customer oriented business Best Buy offers the latest technologies at its stores and to attract and hold customers who are technology savvy it is essential for Best Buy to dwell on its approach of customer service because in the space of advanced technology, nothing can replace the in store experience of actually intera cting with knowledgeable salespersons. Developing the online product offerings: Best Buy must also focus a little more on its online business in order to avoid being overtaken by Amazon and Ebay which are growing their business extensively. In order to keep up to its customer oriented approach, Best Buy must offer more detailed view of its product offerings than any other online competitor. It must increase its online product offering to a wider range and variety of products to grow in the online segment. Increase international presence: At the moment, Best Buy is majorly dependent on the local US market. The international markets are growing fast and competitors like Wal-Mart are growing their business wide, therefore Best Buy must increase its international presence quickly to avoid losing out to its competitors in the international markets and also in order to hedge the risk of being completely dependent on the US market. Also labor expenses being less in a number of international markets, Best Buy can afford to maintain its excellent customer service and enhance its brand value. If any bug is recognized within the scope of the testing categories then the responsible person will reconsider the part and eliminate the bug (Haller et al. 2013). System Evaluation: The system will be providing the accurate information to the authorized user at desired time. The system will generate that information by collecting the raw data from various levels of the project. Risks and opportunities based on that information will be created and provided to the project manager. The user will be accessing the system to get the real time information for facilitating the processes of the light rail network project. The users will be communicating with each other through the system so that required conversation details can be acquired as soon as possible. The users can send and receive files while carrying out the conversation (Vasconcelos et al. 2015). As completing a project is a critical task, the members of the project can do mistakes frequently. For alarming the members so that they does not do any mistake while carrying out the proposed task, the system will first collect the information of the proposed task and analyze with the overall project. The system will also notify the user to conduct the task by giving hints (Low and Chen 2012). The project manager must receive all the information of the ongoing activities. It is because within a project, all the tasks are interconnected. If any work is conducted in a wrong way then it can affect the overall project. System Validation: For carrying out the phase, the V-lifecycle model is the most relevant one. User Requirement Specifications, Operational Qualification, Design Specifications, Functional Specifications, Installation Qualification, development and testing of code and Performance Qualification are the aspects of the V-lifecycle model (Pearce and Friedenthal 2013). Figure 1: V-Lifecycle Model Validation Plan (Source: Pearce and Friedenthal 2013, pp-353) Optimization in Design: There are several aspects of the system that needs to be upgraded so that better reliability and maintainability can be achieved. Improving Reliability: The reliability is a crucial factor of a system. It is because the activities of the project rely on the functionality of the system significantly. The system will be implemented within cloud so that, the system failure occurrence can be reduced to minimum possibility. The reliability of the system is associated with the availability of the system (Ward and Peppard 2016). The system can be accessed 24*7*365. The data loss in an information system is not a rare activity. For making sure that the loss of data does not affect the performance of the system, backup/recovery function will be integrated with the system. This will allow the system to get all the lost data immediately. The system will be modified with the updated technology so that the system can be up-to-date at all time. The system will be providing real-time data to the users. The real-time data means providing data to the user before it is stored within the database (Pearlson, Saunders and Galletta 2016). Improving Maintainability: Maintainability can be referred to the characteristic that make use of the proposed procedures and practices for restoring the system within given time frame to its normal operating phase. Before considering any cloud vendor, a complete survey will be conducted for recognizing the best vendor as per the requirement of the system (Carter 2014). The service provider will be completely responsible for maintaining the system. Human Factors in Designing Concepts: Objective Technical Efficiency It is crucial to consider they will mainly use the human impacts as the system. Not all the users are familiar with the information system. The system will be more efficient as the user can interact with the system easily. Recognizing the aspects of the system that can facilitate the usability of the system. The system incorporates the technical input devices that are easily accessible by the normal people. The low-level users can easily access the information that is required for carrying out their respective processes. Understanding the scope of the system. The system will be using a simple and effective user interface that will consist of the hints so that the user can recollect the knowledge of using the system. The management can perform better at taking decisions and allocating resources. Relating the system with the user requirement in an more relevant manner. Simple tools will be integrated within parts of the system that is not central system so that the devices can be optimized as soon as possible. Simple tools eliminate the need of expert team every time the sub systems fail to perform. Table 1: The Human Factors in Information System (Source: Stair and Reynolds 2013) Literature Review: The information system can be referred to the system that can collect the information for organizing, storing and processing the information (Carter 2014). On the basis of the requirement of the processes the information system can be classified into five sections such as executive information system, decision support system, management information support systems, office support system and transaction processing system (Venkatesh, Brown and Bala 2013). For collecting, storing, processing, cancelling or displaying modifications in terms of the transactions, the transaction processing systems are used explicitly. The management information system makes use of the collected data for generating reports for the management (Shapiro and Varian 2013). The decision support system can also be referred to as the knowledge based system that is used for providing the best support to the management in terms of taking decisions. In terms of identification of long-term trends for planning proper courses of action, the senior managers and executives use the executive information system (Venkatesh, Brown and Bala 2013). Figure 2: Architecture of an Information System (Source: Sousa and Oz 2014) The information system provides several advantages such as communication, availability, cost effectiveness and many more. The system provides the opportunity to the user to send message, email, file, conduct video chatting and many more. The system allows the user to access the information and conduct the tasks on the system at every moment, 24*7*365 (Tran et al. 2013). The users can access the system from anywhere. This offer many users at different geographical locations to communicate with each other properly. This will allow the management to keep track of the processes that are done in the field from a far distance. As the information collected information is verified properly before supplying it to any user, more accurate decisions can be made. As the process will be communicated, more effective working culture can be obtained (Hall 2012). Many other components can be incorporated within the system as per the requirement of the construction activates so that the system always r emain relevant. There are also few disadvantages of the system as well. If the system is not configured properly to avoid the cyber attacks then the theft of information and unwanted access to the system can be experienced. As long as the system remains down the work of the overall project, remain paused (Kanehisa et al. 2014). The attacker can hamper the functionalities of the system. if any error is present in the design of the system then the output can be devastating for the overall project. Conclusion: From the above study it can be concluded that the study consist of the relevant information that is required for analyzing the proposed system. The system testing, evaluation and validation proposes a sound base upon which the features of the system can be measured. As the system will be used only for this specific project, deploying the system in the cloud rather than in-house is the key of reducing the cost of the system. Moreover, the management can concentrate on the construction activities more as the responsibility of implementing and maintaining the system is the responsibility of the service provider.
